The Role of the Board in Nonprofit Strategic Alliances
Thursday, September 13th, 2018 at 3:00 pm EDT
As a nonprofit board or staff member, you have a tremendous responsibility, and you are right to take this responsibility seriously. But sometimes in our efforts to serve our organization, we can become singularly focused on our own success or survival, and lose sight of how our work fits into the bigger picture. We need to think about how it is impacted by the work of others, how our programs and goals overlap or intersect, and how we might be limited by current resources, programs, or scale. Critically, we must also consider how our efforts could be accelerated and amplified by working together. One of the ways in which nonprofit boards and leaders can work strategically and creatively is through strategic alliances and restructuring, like mergers and other ways to formally collaborate.
In this seminar for executives and board members, Anne Wallestad, president and CEO of BoardSource and one of NPQ’s most popular presenters, and Jenifer Gager Holland, Associate Vice President Consulting & Learning Practice at BoardSource, will help leaders think through critical questions they should be asking themselves about the landscape in which the organization is operating, and the moments where formalized partnerships with others can help advance the organization’s mission and impact.
This webinar will explore:
- How your organization’s efforts could be accelerated and amplified by working together through mergers and other types of formal collaborations
- Moments that create natural opportunities to consider the possibility of strategic alliances and restructuring, like intentional strategy and planning, significant shifts in your internal or external operating environment, leadership transitions, and program entry or exit
- What pursuing strategic partnerships takes from leaders in terms of strategic thinking, creativity, openness, and humility
- How to think differently about what it means to expand impact within a broader ecosystem of nonprofit players, and how strategic alliances can be leveraged in a way that strengthens your community’s overall ability to serve its people and needs
